About the Paintings
My dealer, Xavier Fourcade, was visiting my studio one afternoon. I was designing my oil paintings by making preliminary drawings with a gouache-like semi opaque watercolor paint. He saw this process and was fascinated by the result. He told me that the watercolor drawings stand alone as terrific paintings and he wanted to sell them. Xavier always encouraged innovation and development. I started researching where to buy a good quality gouache paint and found there was none on the market except for small tubes used by designers. I found a store in New York City that sells raw pigments. Kremer Pigments is a German Company that imports pigments from all over the world. They also sell dyes and fillers and mediums, binders, solvents, chemicals and glues. They helped me make the paint that I needed. I set up a makeshift laboratory in my studio and used their recipe with a synthetic wallpaper glue and distilled water. Some additives are used such as fillers, fungicides and French Clay to give it brightness.
